• Unity Candle:

• Handfasting:
  This is a symbolic ceremony in which the bride and groom virtually 'tie the knot' by joining hands while the officiant binds their hands with a cord in a 'love knot'.
  This is a Celtic tradition.  We can provide you with a custom made handfasting cord in the colors of your choice.  Priced from $20.00 - $40.00 depending on materials used. 
  
  
• Rose Ceremony:
  There are two versions of this ceremony. Both versions are based on a single rose being the first gift that the bride and groom exchange. This ceremony symbolizes the merging of the bride and groom's families. At the end of this ceremony, the bride and groom give the roses to their mothers and offer a hug or kiss. (this is commonly kept a secret from the mothers so that they are pleasantly surprised) It is a very touching ceremony.  It is very important to remove the thorns from your roses prior to the ceremony.  Your florist will do this upon request or have someone in the wedding party do it for you.
  
  
  
• Jumping the Broom:
  Jumping the broom is a tradition that symbolizes sweeping away the old and welcoming the new, a symbol of a new beginning. It's roots are an African tribal marriage ritual where sticks were placed on the ground, representing the couple's new home. However, it became popular among African-American slaves who could not legally marry, so they created their own rituals to honor their unions. 
  
  
• Blessing Stones:
  This is a great tradition that is done so that all of the guests are included. Basically, guests are given small stones (decorative or otherwise) with a note card attached to each. The guest writes a wish or blessing for the couple and at some point after the ceremony or during the reception, each guest reads his or her wish for the couple, places the wish into a basket and tosses the stone into another container (a wishing well, fountain, etc.) that the couple can keep. Very nice if the guest list is moderate.
  
  
• Blending of the Sands:
  Increasing in popularity, this Hawaiian ceremony uses colored sands that are blended together in a keepsake vase or vessel.  Colored sands and beautiful glass 'vessels' are available through our site from Hortense B. Hewitt products.
  
  
  
• Unity Cup:
  This ceremony, like the others, symbolizes the joining of two lives. Two goblets are filled with wine. Before the couple is pronounced husband and wife, the Officiant pours one-half of the wine from each goblet into a separate cup, the Unity Cup, from which each sips.
  
  
  
• Alternate Rose Ceremony:
  This rose ceremony incorporates 2 roses exchanged by the couple and placed into a vessel or vase. There are two versions of this ceremony, one that uses water in the vessel and one that does not.
